I am sure most of you have heard the term color blocking as a hot trend for spring. The term can bring on different feelings. Some people may feel excitement (for those that love wearing multiple colors together), confusion (for those who aren’t quite sure what it means) and avoidance (for those that think it sounds like too much work and not sure how to wear “color blocking”).
Well, lets break it down. The picture above is one of the simplest ways to color block. Here, Emmanuelle Alt (editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris) kept it very simple using the classic black and white color combo. This is a perfect outfit to use as a guide. She kept the lines clean and simple and let the focus be on the color. You can do this at home a lot easier than you make think. You can copy Ms. Alt’s exact outfit or you could change up the colors. Try black pants with a pink top or for those who are more daring try pairing a blue top with red pants. If you feel comfortable with that then try a top that is one color, pants that are another and then put on a different colored pair of shoes. For example maybe you would put on a pink top, black pants, and green shoes. The main thing is to make sure to keep your accessories simple and in neutral colors. This way you are not overpowered by your outfit and YOU will be the focus not your clothes! Happy color blocking!!!
