The New Year usually comes with a bounty of new resolutions, ideas and plans to make the upcoming year great. We think of it as a starting over point that is clearly marked on the calendar and it gives us the ability to feel empowered about what is to come. One resolution that I hear all of the time is, “this is the year I am going to get my wardrobe into shape.” Of course, I think that this is a great goal to have, and if I may, I would like to share a few tips and ideas with you.
First, the tortoise wins the race. Many of us think that we can accurately accomplish the whole task in day. While that may be a possibility it is important to remember that it is good to take your time and really pay attention to your clothes as you go through them. If you feel yourself rushing just so you can get done stop the task and try it again on a different day. Your time will have been wasted if you just look to the finish line and not the items in hand.
Second, I suggest taking some time to really think about what it is that bothers you about your wardrobe, what you would like to change and why. There is no point in running out and buying a lot of clothes that are going to end up in the same pile of clothes you do not know what to do with or do not like. This is a waste of your money, time and energy. If you think about items you may need or want ask yourself if it makes sense to buy them and does it go with what I already own. This may not sound as fun as going out and buying whatever you like no matter what, but I promise it makes getting dressed in the morning much more enjoyable if your items all work well with each other.
